New Seasons. As young women, new seasons seem to be happening all.the.time. RIGHT?! New school, new experiences, new relationships, new lifestyle, new careers etc. etc. etc. We’re in a stage of life where decisions and transitions basically become our second nature, ha!

And whether we have a choice in the new seasons we encounter, or they just seem to come without permission- we know that our journeys will be sprinkled with them.

As a 23 year old I can think back at so many New Seasons that have happened in the last year alone! Getting married, starting Becoming, getting a new job! And I can look back and notice a few sure things about each of those New Seasons (maybe you can relate): each of them had a God filled purpose (whether it felt good at the moment or not), and they always seemed to try and steal my focus.

I mean lets be honest, new seasons are just that- NEW, sometimes surprising, full of change and need of attention. Is it just me or can you think of a New Season in your life and realize that each time, all you wanted to do was to focus on the season instead of your God IN the season?

Friends, new seasons are going to come. I’m about to enter into one at the end of this week. I know it’s coming, I can see it drawing near and I feel my heart saying something it always longs for “Lanissa, let’s stay steady through this one. Let’s abide in God so that we can experience this season the way God wants us to.

Whatever New Season you are encountering, or will encounter one day, I’m here to share with you that simply going through the motions will not get you to where God has planned for you to go. Because the enemy will try and shift your focus so that you are overcome by the season, instead of steadfast and still in the Lord.

I want to be steady. I want to live unwavering through any New Season that may come my way. Friend, I want to encounter the joys and the heartache with my soul being sure and founded in the truth and love of God. Don’t you?!

I don’t want to be shaken, I don’t want to lose sight and I don’t want to miss the point. The purpose of this season. Because at the end of the day, seasons are seasons. They come and they go. And I don’t want to miss God in the midst of them.

So how do we make sure that we are on the path to steadiness in our New Seasons? We prepare.

Preparing for a New Season, any season, means we are preparing our hearts and minds for whatever we are about to encounter. Life may be constantly changing, but God is ever steady. And we can have quiet and sure spirits, when we prepare ourselves before the newness.

Here are some practical steps and scriptural application that we love to do when preparing for New Seasons:

  1. End Your Last Season Well

The way that we end a season is the way that we will begin our new one. Beginning a season well is easy, but taking time to reflect and finish off a season with hope- takes some intention. Whatever your last season may be, take a few minutes to sit down and reflect with the Lord on all that has happened. Ask Him to fill your heart with hope & open your eyes to see the good He is working together. Then FINISH well- don’t rush out of your season too early. Work hard, be faithful and end your season on your best foot!

     2. Get prepared & position yourself for steadiness

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

I love this. No matter what is ahead of me- I want to position myself so that I can run the race well, and hear my God clearly. Schedule a time that you can consistently be spending time with the Lord. Whether it’s putting quiet time strategically into your schedule, joining a small group or signing up for a daily devo- position yourself to keep your mind stayed on Him. Another tip? Prepare your living space, and clear it up. A clear space is a clear mind. I love to do some rearranging and fresh cleaning of my home before a New Season begins!

     3. Surrender It

Whatever that season may hold, we can be encouraged friends, God has it all under control. We are safest in His hands. So before you begin your new season, surrender all that is to come to Him. Give up your control, your worries, your concerns- and focus most on abiding in Him.

One of our BIGGEST desires is that you would be brave and chat with us in the comments below. We weren't meant to do this journey alone- let's do this together!
