“The pure in heart are blessed, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8

“He answered, ‘Whether or not He’s a sinner. I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see.” John 9:25

A little background on me (Makaela): I got saved and baptized back in 2005 when I was 11 years old and I can remember it like it was yesterday. It was the best day of my life. Getting to know Jesus when I was younger and having a natural childlike faith was beautiful.

And then I grew up. My journey with the Lord beckoned to grow deeper. But (amen to this) we all go through struggles and times where we feel distant from the Lord. CONFESSION? Mine was my senior year of High School.

My story? I knew what I needed to do as a Christian, but at the same time wanted to experience the life my peers seemed to be enjoying. Anyone with me?! I had an opportunity to experience the presence of God but instead let my mind and heart be consumed by the whirlwind of those around me.

I wasn’t seeing the Lord in my everyday. Truth be told, I was blinded by my sins and not fully living my calling as a Christian out.

Flash forward three years & I can say because of His love toward me that I can see Jesus more clearly. I let him remove my blinders.

Our lives are full of different seasons. Seasons of learning and growing and understanding His love more. I in no way have it all together. I still have my moments and days where I feel like I’m far from Him and don’t fully see Him in my everyday. I miss devotions, I get distracted by my emotions, I get consumed with busyness.

But I’m learning that God has so much grace towards us, it is unbelievable. But He also never wants us to remain stagnant. He has a woman He wants us to become. Not by seeking perfection, but by allowing ourselves to keep our focus on Him in the middle of every season. In the middle of every single day.

How do we get blinded?

I think it’s simple but powerful. We get caught up in the world and not caught up in Him. We get so busy in OUR everyday life that we don’t see the thing that matters most in it all- HIM.We can sit on social media for hours (guilty), but we can’t be in His word for hours because maybe we get bored with it or it’s to hard to comprehend. I don’t know what the case may be for you, but I do know that God has more for us girlfriend.

The truth? He wants us to experience Him in a unique way to us, each day. And seeing Him in our everyday can look like so many things.

Seeing Him in the trees or the sunlight. Feeling Him even when you are in a situation you could care less for. Hearing him speak to you about where to go, or what to say to that random girl walking by you.

We were created to experience Him every single day. Imagine what our lives could look like, full of God encounters. We would start to look more and more like Him.

Practical Steps to Seeing Him in Everyday Life:

  • Set the tone! As soon as you wake up (&your eyes adjust), instead of checking your phone, grab your Bible and read the Word or even a short devotional (First5 app is great for that!). Let the first thing your mind hears be truth.

  • Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and heart to see Him in any situation or person that day. To see that He is with you. Then simply surrender your day and your heart to Him.

  • Remember that God isn’t playing hide and seek with you. Seriously. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Just keep your heart focused on Him and His truth- and you will see Him. He is everywhere.

Today’s Challenge: Let’s go deeper together! Answer the following questions below & we will chat back with you about it. Have you ever felt like your daily life felt like a whirlwind because your eyes were focused on the wrong thing? What are you letting hold you back in seeing Him?

Then this week I challenge each of you (myself included) to try each of the practical steps listed above! Let’s experience Him together!

Xoxo,
