How She Does It: Chelsea Wern

Hello lovely ladies! I’m Chelsea Wern! I am a lover of positivity and when you meet me, I will most likely have some sort of food in my hand. My passion is the local church and have recently uprooted my life and moved for a church plant as the Childrens Ministry Director. I enjoy going to the beach or anything that involves the sun, laughing with friends and going to the movies with my studly boyfriend.

All in the past few months you've moved to a new city, started a new job & joined a lead team in planting a Church! (phew!) Tell us what you’ve learned practically from your season of major transitions! Any tips?

It's been a whirlwind of transitions for sure! Trusting in God's timing is always number one, it might not make sense at times but His way always works. And also surrounding yourself around people that will encourage and love you no matter the choices you decide to make.

Lastly, learning to say, “No”. I quickly became a “yes” person growing up. I never wanted to disappoint anyone, but at the end of the day I wasn’t saying yes to God. Moving to plant a church meant I had to say no to many other things. It wasn’t easy but it has become the best decision I have ever made.

As a teen-20something, how have you learned to get comfortable in your own skin?

I have learned throughout the years to stay in my lane and to never compare my life to someone elses. There will always be someone skinnier, taller, longer hair, (the list goes on) out there. But remember that God created YOU, and no one is like YOU.

Tell us some tips on how you study the bible and encounter God’s presence?

This might sound silly but lately I have been listening to the Bible read out loud and then writing and doing my devotional. While I get ready in the morning I can listen to multiple chapters in the Bible. Trust me, don’t knock it till you try it! ;)

Favorite Christmas tradition you want to carry on as you get older?!

Even since I can remember my mom would always wake up before us, make cinnamon rolls and do a little devotion before we ever opened gifts. When I was younger I was always itching to open the gifts. But as I got older it became something I always loved and looked forward to. And now I'm looking forward to doing that with my future family.

If you could look back at your life, what is one piece of advice you would give to other young women?

Always honor your parents. I know this isn’t always easy but honoring your parents will help you as your older when you need to honor a boss you might not agree with or even your future husband. God honors people who honor their authority. Not only honoring them with your words but also with your heart.

Tell us your favorite Instagram account to follow for Inspiration, and why?

Okay this one was tough because I mainly follow fashion bloggers and foodies. But I would have to say DawnChere Wilkerson. I got to meet her recently and she is as real as real gets. She is truly a woman of God. Catch her infectious joy by following her too!

What’s one thing you’ve really struggled with as a young woman? And what truth can you speak into that?

Pretending like I had it all together at times. The enemy is so good at making us think that we are the only person that has ever struggled and that we need to keep our problems to ourselves. But that is not the truth! It says in James 5:16, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” We need to stay accountable to others even when life gets hard.

What’s your favorite beauty secret?

Skincare!! I am not the biggest make up junky, I love being natural. But I love taking care of my skin. I wash my face twice a day and have a very strict (drugstore) regimen that includes: removing makeup, cleansing, toningand moisturizing. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's the best product out there. :)

Tips for celebrating Christmas on a budget as a teen-20something?

Only spend cash that you have, never use credit. Christmas is not worth going into debt for. But also little things really do matter most and cheap hand written cards go along way.

What’s one lie you think we as young women need to stop believing?

Don’t ever let your past environments affect your future endeavors. I grew up in a single parent household and often felt like my dreams were not attainable. But thankfully I didn’t believe that and was able to go to the Bible college of my dreams and I am continually pursing and achieving dreams that I never thought I could.
