How to Serve God in a Season of Uncerntainty

Oh man, friends. What if I told you I’ve been in a specific season of uncertainty for 2 years now… 2 YEARS!?! It’s still crazy to me, to think that for 2 years I’ve been in this place where I’m not QUITE sure what God is up to, but I k n o w that He has to be moving because He is good and the uncomfortable tension I’m beginning to feel in my spirit with where I am is only growing. Maybe YOUR uncertain season looks like waiting for a baby, an open door, trying to figure out how to navigate hard relationships or do your best at a job you don’t love. Maybe it’s God not letting up on nudging your spirit for you to let go of that bitterness or dishonoring sassiness (guilty) OR He is stirring something in your heart but you aren’t sure what it looks like yet or what you should do about it .

ALL of these are so uncertain, man I can just feel the weight that the enemy wants us to feel when we mention all the things we a r e n ‘ t sure of. BUT IN UNCERTAIN seasons, we HAVE to cling to the thing that we a r e sure of, the unshaken foundation we choose to build our life on because we know the world around us and human tendencies within us are shaky- Jesus. And the certain truth that God IS good, He DOES good & He is WORKING a l l things together for YOUR good. Because He loves you and you love Him.

The hard truth about uncertain seasons, right off the bat because who has time for fluff, is that they are certain. They are going to happen, period. Again & again before we leave this earth and come face to face with our Father, because we weren’t made to know all the things. In the Garden of Eden, Eve gave up all the goodness God had for her RIGHT where she was because she wanted to know what the fruit of the tree of “all knowledge” tasted like. It tasted like not being in the will of God. Instead of trusting that what God had given her was enough for her to live fully & be taken care of- she disobeyed God and tried to be like Him, try to force things to happen that simply weren’t meant to be. Genesis 3

I don’t want to live like Eve, friend. I want to live in the resurrecting freedom of Jesus that tells me that God loves me SO much that I DON’T have to worry about the things I cannot see. Instead I can have faith, walk in faith and experience God’s freedom in my everyday life- especially when I’m leaning on and trusting in HIS understanding instead of my own.

THAT’S freeing. To not have to live with hands clenched, in constant worry that makes us sick and dread our everyday. But to live free, in Jesus. Trusting that MAN ARE THE PLANS HE HAS FOR ME GOOD!!!!! I’m going to proclaim it on the mountain tops and even louder in my valleys so that every wilderness I’ll walk through can hear- MY GOD IS GOOD and it’s in Him alone that I put my trust. Not my plans, not my knowledge, n o t my hope for tomorrow.

COME ON <3 THAT is the life God wants you to live right n o w, friend. A life of freedom, trust and JOY. And you can.

Here are a few practical things you can do to SERVE God smack dab in the middle of your uncertainty (& show the enemy whose boss):

1) Read the above, because that is your foundation for WHY you’re going to serve God even when you’re uncertain.

I’ll wait, because it’s that important. :)

NOW- WHY is serving God important? 1. Serving God is a direct “you’re not winning this one” slap in the face to the enemy because you are choosing to not only TRUST God but to intentionally get involved with what God is doing, being part of the b i g g e r picture and story rather than only focusing on yourself. 2. Serving is where we discover our purpose & are able to realize the true heart of Jesus which was n o t to be self-focused and served, but to serve.

2) Serve God by choosing to put the Word before the World. Listen friend, the promises found in Scripture are what is going to renew your mind and keep you going in your season.

Because God is a faithful God who keeps His promises, so let’s fill ourselves up with what those a r e so much so that when we get overwhelmed & frustrated at our season- our minds are renewed and trained to remember His truth.

3) Serve God by embracing your town & loving the people in your path. What if your waiting season and the uncertainty isn’t about you?

What if there are people, the cashier you always see at the Grocery Store, the girls you walk past at the coffee shop, your boss, the people in your LOCAL CHURCH who NEED the love and hope of Jesus & y o u are the one God is asking to bring it to them. What if you were the only Jesus people encountered today? I don’t want to waste that by going straight home & moping on my couch (which I’ve done plentyyyy of times & still struggle with).

Practice your testimony in under 5 min, ask God to give you an encouraging word for someone, help someone in need, love on your town by making it better, get to know people’s stories. Serve them, because they are God’s city and you’ve been placed there right now, ON PURPOSE.

4) Serve God by showing up & doing the hard thing.

Make the best use of the time God has given you, be intentional with friendships, help and love on people when it’s inconvenient, give your best in that hard meeting or job you don’t love. Fast & ask God to show you what He want’s you to focus on right now, then go after it hard.

& WORSHIP. Worship, praising God OUT LOUD and encountering just a moment of His presence gives us the energy to keep going. The peace & strength to live in this season a little bit longer. Use our Quiet Time Spotify Playlist for some powerful Worship songs to help you with this. <3

Our season could end in a moment. Let’s not miss what God is wanting to do and grow in us right here. There is purpose & you h a v e a purpose in this season. I’m rooting you on!
