How She Does It: Savannah Dougherty

Hi Becoming friends! My name is Savannah Dougherty. EEEKKKK! So excited to finally have this last name!  I am a 20something newlywed who was blessed to marry the man of my dreams. I love Jesus and believe that if you line your life up under Him, everything will fall into place- I am a testament to that! I love fashion and recently took a step of faith and opened up my very own online women’s clothing boutique: Chosen Boutique. I'm so excited to be in this community with you all!

Tell us a little about your newly launched Christian Based Boutique “Chosen Boutique” & your heart behind the community there!

Chosen Boutique was founded on Colossians 3:12. Our mission is to provide affordable and trendy clothes to women. We hope to not only provide fashion but to help encourage and empower women (you!). We are also working towards giving to different charities/organizations. This is one of the reasons I believe God led me to open this Boutique, to give back! This is something that has been very heavy on my heart and so I knew that if this was God’s will, he was going to make a way!

Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

As a 20something, how are you learning to get comfortable in your own skin?

I’m not going to lie, it is very hard to get comfortable in my own skin. It is so hard when we are constantly seeing models or fitness people all over the media. We begin to feel insecure and less than. I believe in times like those, we really have to press into God and what His word says. What helps me the most is when I speak scripture out loud over myself. Join me?

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Tell us some tips on how you study the bible and encounter God’s presence?

I will normally start off my quiet time with worship music. My go-to is always Bethel! And then before I enter His word, I always pray for Him to direct me on where He wants me to read & then speak to me as I read. This simple combination really helps me notice what He truly wants me to see or hear that day.

You’re a 20 year old newlywed who JUST took a step of faith and launched her own business?! What was it like to take that step of faith & any advice for us on being bold and going for it?!

I had a really hard time with trying to find what I wanted to do with my life. Please tell me I am not alone?! lol! I switched my major in College way too much and was constantly informing people of the different occupations I wanted to do. I was choosing things based on the income I was going to make and not truly on my own happiness. Anyone else have a really hard time with wanting to please others?

But I finally broke down and gave it to God. Then BAM, the idea of a Christian-based online boutique came to mind a couple of days later. Talk about gutsy, God!  He began to give me visions and clarity of how it would all come about & I stepped away from school once I finished my AA and opened up my boutique.

If you feel like God is asking you to be BOLD and take a step of faith toward something- listen to me friend, DO it. Surround yourself with people who are for you & do the thing. Faith doesn't make sense sometimes. But in obedience He always provides!

What’s your favorite quick-prep dinner for you and your hubby on busy nights?

Chicken seems to go with everything and is definitely one of our favorites. We normally pair the chicken with brown rice and vegetables, or cheese and pasta. We both love trying new things and adding what we think would taste good. Somehow it always comes out tasty!

Tell us your favorite Instagram account to follow for Inspiration, and why?

In a social media world of comparison- I need to make sure what I'm soaking in is full of truth! Who we follow makes a difference! Here are some of my favorites:

What’s one thing you’ve really struggled with as a young woman? And what truth can you speak into that?

One thing I have always struggled with is my height and body shape. You know those days when you don’t even want to look in the mirror? Yeah, I know those well. These verses below have helped me fully understand what God thinks of us.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

You are created in the image of God, and God doesn't make junk!

What’s your favorite beauty secret?

Baby powder for greasy hair- trust me! I HAVE to wash my hair every day or else it gets greasy. If I am running late or just don’t have time to wash my hair, I throw some baby powder on top and pat it/ rub it into my scalp. And there you go, my weird yet favorite beauty secret!

You’re a newlywed of almost 2 months! Any funny moments with your new hubby or advice for new 20something wifeys?!

Oh goodness, do I have stories or what?! The funniest and hardest thing for us so far has been sleeping in the same bed. I am still trying not to spread out like a star and take all of the covers. He gets so aggravated. LOL. I have also been told that I like to talk and snore in my sleep…JOY.

As far as advice, I've found that my husband loves when I cook for him, especially breakfast in bed. It is the little things. So find what your husband likes and make sure to go out of your way to do it. It doesn’t go unnoticed.

What traditions or routine are you trying to implement into your lifestyle?

I love family traditions and am so excited to start making my own. This past Christmas I made a point to wake up early, make my husband cinnamon rolls, and have a devotional planned for the two of us to read. I loved being able to wake up in OUR home on Christmas morning, celebrate Jesus, and open gifts together.
